Anderson missed the second Test at Lord's after suffering a strain in the first game in Cardiff, but it has progressed and replace uncapped Jade Dernbach Surrey seamer.

Anderson will have the opportunity to show it is match ready when Lancashire play Worcestershire in the life of friends t20 Sunday.

If he comes through this sick game without effects, Anderson will be a certainty to return to the side, leading the series 1-0 after their dramatic victory in the final afternoon of the first Test.

It is not only the most experienced Englandseam options, but also those most likely to take advantage of the new ball with full, oscillating deliveries.

National selector Geoff Miller said: "Jimmy Anderson is clearly the leader in our bowling attack, it will be a significant inclusion should it get through friends life ttwweennttyy free Lancashire Worcestershire match."

"Side strains can be particularly troublesome for bowlers, but given the injury to Jimmy was an a grade strain and, therefore, injury of low grade, he should be fit for selection.".

"A period of rest and recovery has certainly been beneficial and we obviously would not include Jimmy in the team if the medical staff were not convinced of his ability."

In the Lord, trio of England seamers tall-vaunted failed to challenge the sri Lanka batsmen regularly than enough and Stuart Broad, Chris Tremlett and Steven Finn should yield to Anderson when the side is named on Thursday morning.

Tremlett was regularly threatening England bowler in the series and will not fail to be retained and even if wide was perhaps the greatest case of answer, with six wickets to 48 in four rounds to date and of questions on the use of the new ball, Finn is most likely to withdraw.

As in the ashes, he frustrated HQ with a line erratic and length but showed once again his critical knack to take wickets with the first four rounds of victims.

England batsmen gave the selectors a less intense workout this week, with second sleeves 72 of Kevin Pietersen enough to calm the whispers on his form and Eoin Morgan justifying his place at number six with an enterprising 79.
