Ricky Ponting shocked by decision of the Australia of abandonment Simon Katich

36 Years was denied a contract of CA for the 2011-2012 season, one of the best interpreters of the Australiaover the past two years.

The first game later hit out at selectors following his failure, "absolutely ridiculous" labelling decision.

And Ponting, who presented the capitanat of the Australia Test and the sides of a day, to Michael Clarke after the ICC 2011 World Cup was shocked to see dumped age 36.

"It is fair to say (Katich) he did not retain in its conference press and rightly so well", said Ponting.

"To be omitted in the contract list was a great shock to him." It was a shock for me.

"His performance over the past two or three years has been as good to the person in the world."

In the past two years, Katich had the second highest average of any player of Australia, behind only Shane Watson, crushing former colleagues Ponting and Mike Hussey in the process.

And Ponting admitted the decision to drop Katich was a wake-up call for himself and Hussey when they enter the final stages of their careers.

"It puts us 36 years on notice now, Mike Hussey and myself," said Ponting.

"It will make us work harder shortly." I would have liked to have an another old bloke on the group with me.

"(But) this means a young guy gets a go and I hope that guy can, and do the work for us."
